"In the News" - "True Grit" - HARDEEVILLE -- Old trades and old ways fascinate Steve Prescott. You may read this article in its entirety HERE.
Pedal Bone Forge offers high quality, reliable farrier service, performed by Steve Prescott, certified Journeyman farrier.
Steve has been shoeing horses for over 25 years. His interest in shoeing horses began after following his big sister Becky everywhere including the barn. One day while at the barn Becky’s horse “Jo” was getting a new pair of shoes. She said to Steve, “You could do that.” Becky thought it would be a great way for her to save some money and give her little brother something to do. At age 16 Steve started his apprenticeship with Jimmy Johnson, and that was the beginning of Steve’s blacksmithing career.
Steve has a degree in Animal Science from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. His farrier work has taken him throughout most of the southeastern United States – to Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. He maintains a good working relationship with the veterinarians particularly in the South Carolina and Georgia area, and is frequently recommended to fill shoeing prescriptions to alleviate horses’ pain and discomfort.
Steve is also an American Farrier Association tester. In addition, he is asked to speak and give demonstrations all over the country to vet students. His lectures and hands on demos are designed to help educate future veterinarians on the “How To’s” of basic farrier work. He also takes the time to express to the students how important it is to have a good friendly working relationship with the farriers in their area. He wants them to remember that veterinarians and farriers are all on the same team and that both professions have the same goal. The goal is to help equine owner have a sound and healthy animal.
The “string“ of horses in his care range from high-level competition horses to individually owned pleasure horses. Steve is looking forward to building strong working relationships with you and horse.
Please check back with us soon, as Steve will be partnering with local veterinarian Mitch Lowry to perform lameness clinics. More information to come. |
