Rider will be tested on horse colors


Course Objectives:

Beginner I
Learn to tack, cool down, untack horse. Leading, horse safety.
Walk, trot, diagonals. Cavalletti poles.

Beginner II
Complete Beg I. Canter, start leads. Jump crossrails 18"

Beginner III
Complete Beg I & II. Complete leads, Sitting trot & canter.
Jump crossrail 18" courses. Horse shows.

Intermediate I
Complete Beg I through III. Bending. Polish sitting trot and canter.
Start jumping 2' verticals. Horse shows.

Intermediate II
Complete Beg I through Int. I. Collection, lead changes.
Jump 2' courses, equitation courses, and solid fences. Horse shows.

Intermediate III
Complete Beg I through Int. II. Equitation courses. Jump 2'6". Horse shows.
Advance I- Complete Beg I through Int. III. Jump 3'. Start Jumper courses. Horse shows.


Learning Objectives:
Students who complete the course with a grade of "C" or better should be able to demonstrate basic horsemanship. The level of proficiency for each student will be determined by their demonstration of fluidity, balance, form and understanding of the proper utilization of these techniques.

Course Requirements:
All students or parent/legal guardians must sign a standard riders release form, which will be kept on file with management, before starting any type of lesson program.

All students MUST wear an approved AHSA riding helmet with a harness at all times when mounted on a horse or pony.

All Beginner I students must register for private lessons. All Beginner I students must wear paddock boots and long pants.

Once beyond Beginner I level, all students are required to wear britches, boots and a collared shirt during their lessons. It is also required that all students above Beginner I level have a tack bucket with a hoof pick, horse brushes, sponge, small towel, curry comb, tack cleaning soap and rag. This equipment must be brought to every lesson.

Lessons are taught in the Hunter/Jumper discipline. Group lessons will have no more than 5 riders per class. All lessons must be canceled with 24 hours in advance. Any lesson canceled with less than 24 hours notice will not be allowed to be made up.

Lessons are rain or shine. Star Ridge Stables offers a full horse management program so rain days are used to teach important "class room" information. How to bridle and saddle, parts of the horse, basic first aid and how to wrap legs. Some one will call you if your lesson is canceled due to inclement weather.

CLASS PARTICIPATION:
Participation in class is very important. It is expected that you participate actively.

There will be one mid term and one final exam.

Class participation - 90%
Mid term exam - 5%
Final exam - 5%
The final course grade will be assigned using the following scale:
91-100 A
88-90 B+
80-87 B
77-79 C+
70-76 C
65-69 D
0-64 F
